Natural Gas Installation Richmond Hill

Installing a gas line should only be done by a trusted gas installer professional

In Ontario, the use of Natural Gas is highly regulated to ensure that gas companies and professionals meet the industry’s threshold of technical and safety standards. As a homeowner, you can be rest assured that safety comes first.

Natural Gas contains many different compounds but comprises mostly of methane, a compound with one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms (CH4) the simplest hydrocarbon form Methane molecules. It also contains smaller amounts of natural gas liquids (NGLs, which are also hydrocarbon gas liquids) and nonhydrocarbon gases, such as carbon dioxide and water vapor. In a nutshell, natural gas is a comparatively clean, low-cost and versatile fuel, however, Methane is lighter than air and disperses quickly. Therefore, as with any other type of potentially dangerous energy sources, such as electricity, gasoline, exposure of any kind must be handled with care.  Call us for a Free quote!

Natural Gas Is Environment-Friendly

Natural gas is one of the cleanest fossil fuels which makes it the cleanest burning fossil fuel. When it’s used for hot water, (cooking, heating, etc), less carbon dioxide is dispersed into the environment in comparison to other uses of fossil fuels such as electricity thereby lowering the quantity of carbon dioxide (C02) causing greenhouse effect.

New Natural Gas Connection

If you are currently using Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) or electricity for hot water, dryers, stove cooking, room heaters or if you have a newly constructed home or business, and want to be connected to natural gas service, here are the steps to follow:

How it works

  • 1. Contact Enbridge

There are three (3) natural gas utilities in Ontario, however, most people receive service from Enbridge Gas, especially if you live in Richmond Hill.  If that is not the case, go to the Ontario Energy Board’s website to help you find your local utility or call Enbridge customer service or any other provider in your area and confirm they provide service at your address.

  • 2. Contact us to Install Gas Appliances

Call us to have the gas service set-up. Whether you want to have a gas appliance installed or convert to a natural gas line BBQ, you want to give us a call as qualified HVAC contractors in Ontario.  It is our duty to meet the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA).

  • 3. Apply & Submit an Application

You may now choose to submit an application for natural gas service with Enbridge or you can allow us to do this part for you so that you save the time explaining the technical details and measurements to a customer service representative.

  • 4. Open an Account

Now it’s time to open an account with Enbridge, if you don’t already have one. A worker from the utility company can come to check out your property and determine the complexity of installing a gas line. If the distance from the front wall of your home or business to the property line is greater than 18 metres, you will have to pay a service fee.

Please note that Enbridge will likely take about 7 to 12 weeks after the approval of your service application to come out and install your gas line.

  • 5. Appliance Installation

Now that the necessary lines and connections have been installed, call us to come and install your gas appliances.

AT this point, for expediency, you may also want to contact Enbridge's customer service department to schedule an appointment for an inspector to attend at your property the same day we install your appliances

  • 6. Inspection

Once everything is in place, an inspector from Enbridge will attend at your property (at no cost) to check out that your equipment is ready and safe  for use

  Appliance Installer Validation Form

Note:  Enbridge requires an “Appliance Installer Validation Form” be completed and attached to the primary heating appliance, and any other appliance requiring setup and commissioning. The form confirms the requirements of CSA B149.1 section 4.3 have been fulfilled by the installer, and if the appliance is used during construction of the house, that the construction heat requirements have been met.

How to detect signs of a natural gas leak in your home

01 Smell

Natural gas in it's natural state does not have any odor or colour. However, to make leaks easier to detect, gas companies add odorants to create a smell similar to Sulphur which smells like rotten eggs.

02 Sounds

If there is a gas leak, you may hear hissing sounds in pipes or appliances, even if your appliance is turned off. Make sure to check pipes and appliances regularly for any hissing sounds.

03 Bubbles

If you're outside your home and notice bubbles in puddles, still water or mud around home, there's a possibility that the underground piping outside your home has a leak. Natural gas can disperse through soil and into the surrounding air.

04 Dying Plants

Have you been taking care of your indoor plants ? But somehow plants appear to be dying ? How about the leaves on your trees outside, are they smaller than usual? Yellow patches on your grass? These are all possible signs of a gas leak as it can prevent a plant’s roots from absorbing oxygen.

05 Poisoning

There are low level and high level  symptoms from exposure to natural gas, some of which include: irregular breathing, headaches, dizziness, to more extreme symptoms due to poisoning that can be identified as having memory problems, loss of concentration, nausea, loss of consciousness, and suffocation. For your safety, please consult with a healthcare professional  immediately.

06 Gas Increase

It is normal to see an increase in furnace gas usage during season changes, however, unexpected  increases in your gas bill or usage can be a sign of a leak somewhere in your home.
